The ministry began in July 1987, under the Reverend C. David Follansbee with the participation of members of the congregation. Today, twenty years later, the Reverend Frank Kowar directs the ministry. The prerecorded message is not longer than eight minutes, averaging about five, and contains scripture, an inspirational meditation, and prayer. It may also be used to provide bulletins on congregational news.
The Helping Hand Food Pantry
The Helping Hand Food Pantry, located in The Hillsdale United Methodist Church on Magnolia Avenue, is a cooperative ministry of the Hillsdale Christian churches, united in the name of Jesus Christ, and supported by other volunteers of the community who join their hearts, hands, time, energy and resources to provide food for those in need. Donations are made to the Food Pantry on the 4th Sunday of the month at the Worship Service. All other times, receptacles are provided at the rear doors of Fellowship Hall on Magnolia Avenue. Caring Ministry
Its ministry is to provide pastoral care in a systematic way to members of the Hillsdale United Methodist Church who are homebound because of age or illness. Their sponsors visit, call, pray, send cards and deliver special remembrances to their homebound.
Disaster Relief
Each district has a District Disaster Coordinator, and each church is to have a disaster relief representative. HUMC is responsive to disasters within its community, and is supportive to neighboring churches which experience disasters within their community. The goal is to be prepared as much as possible, and to build a network so that the response can be timely.
One Great Hour of Sharing
All the money raised in our offering goes to the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR). These funds provide vital support for administrative costs, under-funded programs, and are used as a springboard for raising more funds. As Christians we're called to offer the hands, the heart and the hope of the church wherever people are suffering. Gifts to the OGHS, channeled through UMCOR, enable the church to answer that call.
